The Great Shefford Circular…

This walk can be tailored for everyone… From 3 miles to 13 miles. You choose. This circular walk on both the South and North side of the village crosses undulating fields, rivers and woodland. There are breath taking views at the top of the downs and an abundance of wildlife everywhere. For the full walk of 13 miles we head South West out of the village, skirting past the 12th-century church where there is a gentle uphill climb to look at the views of the North side of The River Lambourn. Descending back down towards the river we then cross over to the North side and carry on alongside the river towards East Garston. On entering the village we turn right , (although coffee and cake can be had at Priscillas!) We now head North East up the affectionally locally name ‘SKI SLOPE’. The views at the top here are incredible. At this point of the walk there has already been 2 opportunities to take a shorter route home.

North East…

We are pretty much at the highest point on the North East side now and continue across the fields on a gradual descent. Picking up the paths that take us back to the village and out the other side. There are many options to return home but for the serious walkers its time to cross over to the other side of the village again.

Are We Nearly There Yet?

Well that’s what I say at this point. Heading up towards West Berkshire golf course you can get views of the village of Great Shefford. This is about the 8mile point, and here there opportunities for photos and refreshments before the final leg home. Still heading out of the village and towards the little village of Elton the walk now takes you back over to the South Side for the final climb where you can take in the views of earlier in the day before the descent home, and a pint at the pub!
